Michel LAVIGNOLLE

Jury of the 2019 competition

Michel Lavignolle studied at the National Conservatory of Paris in the class of Alain Marion. He obtained a first prize after having obtained his certificate of aptitude and the following year the diploma of honor of the contest Jean Pierre Rampal. He is currently full professor of flute at the Conservatoire de Lyon. He has always been strongly attracted by the repertoire of chamber music and it is in this city that he creates with Jean Louis Bergerard the creation of the ensemble Les Temps Modernes in 1993. This set together is for him the means to express his taste for twentieth century music and creation. Les Temps Modernes has appeared in many French festivals: Musica (Strasbourg), Why Note (Dijon), Polychrome Territories (Paris), Besançon Festival, Messian in the country of La Meije (La Grave) ... and abroad. They have been invited to the festivals: La Bâtie (Geneva), the Season of France in Quebec (Montreal), the NYYD festival (Tallinn), the Gaida festival (Vilnius), Hochshule für Musik (Hannover), " Suona francese "in Italy, in Shanghai in China and Yokohama in Japan. In the universe of the composers they choose to play, the musicians of the ensemble try to highlight by their interpretation what is directly addressed to the meaning of the poetic sound: the sensitivity, the dream, the interrogation and sensuality.

They show that the essential components of the musical art are still present and that contemporary music is not necessarily at odds with the works of the past, but can continue, with its new contributions, the history of the art of art. 'a civilization. In charge of a collection at the musical publisher Robert Martin he tries to enrich the repertoire for flute and to promote the music of composers with whom he collaborates actively. In this context he publishes two works by Mario Stanchev. This is the beginning of a fruitful collaboration that led them to create the duo Stanchev / Lavignolle. It constitutes together an original repertoire resulting from multiple influences: classical, jazz and world music where improvisation holds a very important place.
